The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides bulk billing via Medicare

Our dental practice in the heart of Oakleigh is a Medicare Dentist, offering the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) Medicare bulk billing. We serve CDBS to children in our local community; including Hughesdale, Huntingdale, Oakleigh East and surrounding areas.

We provide quality dental care for the whole family, however can only offer Medicare paid dental care to children. Being central to the Oakleigh shopping centre means it’s easy to get here. Our location makes it simple to fit your child’s dentist appointments in around school and extracurricular activities.

Is your child eligible to visit a bulk billing dentist?

If your child is eligible for the CDBS and can visit a bulk billing dentist, Medicare will cover some of the dental costs for your children.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is available to eligible families in receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A, or other funding from the Department of Human Services. It provides for your child/ren to receive up to $1000 worth of bulk billed general and restorative dental treatments. In many instances, there will be no out of pocket expenses for you, depending on the dental care your child needs.

The CDBS is a means-tested government-funded allowance that is available to children aged between 2-17 years old. If you are not sure if your child is eligible, call our reception, and they can check your eligibility over the phone. All we need is your Medicare card number. Even if you have private health insurance, your children can still qualify for Medicare paid dental care. It’s worth a call to establish if you could be eligible.

The Australian Government website also has detailed information on eligibility and the benefits for basic dental services.

My child qualifies for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, at what age should they start seeing the dentist?

The CDBS is available for children from the age of two years old. Good oral hygiene and hygiene practices at a young age are more likely to result in strong, healthy teeth as your children grow older. If you qualify for Medicare paid dental care, make an appointment to have your child’s oral health assessed. At the same time, help them to feel confident with visiting the dentist.

Nothing could make us happier than children with healthy teeth and smiles.

What are the CDBS inclusions and exclusions?

The CDBS includes a range of children’s dental treatments, including:

  • Check-ups (examinations)
  • Fissure sealants
  • Cleaning (hygiene appointments)
  • Fillings
  • X-rays
  • Extractions
  • Root canals

These preventative and restorative child dentist treatments up to $1000 are completed over two calendar years, and any unused funds cannot be rolled over.

The CDBS does not include children’s orthodontic or cosmetic dental services. However, if these are required, we can tailor a treatment plan to suit your child’s oral health that accommodates your lifestyle and budget.
