It is common for patients to wish to top up their professionally whitened teeth at home to extend the longevity of their brand new smile.
Zoom tooth whitening process
There are numerous steps to the Zoom at-home whitening procedure, all of which are individually tailored to you and your desired results.
We will provide you with instructions on how to use your Philips Zoom teeth whitening gel and trays for maximum results.
The teeth whitening process, whether it be at-home or in-clinic, always begins with a general dental check-up and consultation. During this appointment, the suitability of your teeth and oral hygiene will be assessed to determine whether you’re suitable for take-home whitening treatment. We place your dental health first, so it’s crucial we have an initial consultation to ascertain your eligibility for treatment and the ideal whiteness of your teeth.
We begin creating your whitening kit by taking impressions of your teeth to create a custom mould. From this mould, we can develop a set of plastic mouth bleaching trays for your treatment. Upon your second visit in-clinic, we will ensure the custom-fitted moulds are well suited to your teeth and are a comfortable fit. You will then receive the bleaching solution and instruction manual.
Before beginning the application process, it is incredibly important to brush and floss your teeth thoroughly to remove any plaque build-up.
Begin by applying a teardrop size of the bleaching gel into each impression in your trays, ideally using .5 cc or less per tray. If the gel is overloaded, it may come in contact with the gums and irritate so this step is quite essential.
Once the whitening trays are filled, gently place the plates over your teeth and allow for processing.
Depending on your desired results, the time in which you spend with the mouth guards on will differ. Upon your initial consultation, these variants will be discussed regarding your lifestyle, the current state of your teeth, and your desired results. We will then tailor-make you a treatment plan, detailing exactly how long and how often you should undergo whitening.
When your prescribed whitening time is up, remove your trays and give them a deep clean using cold water. Then brush your teeth once more and enjoy your brighter smile.
How long does Zoom at-home whitening take?
Zoom at-home whitening treatment is divided into two separate products which vary in processing time and results. Patients may decide to do one or the other, however many patients undergo both treatments at once for faster, more effective results. Each patient will receive a unique treatment plan to follow, meaning timing will differ depending on what the dental professional prescribed.
DayWhite, to be applied during the daytime, is designed to be on the teeth for anywhere between 30 to 90 minutes. This whitening solution is usually used once to twice a day, most commonly in the morning and in the evening.
Nightwhite, to be applied during the nighttime, is designed to be worn for 2 to 4 hours. However, many patients wear their trays through the entirety of the night and remove them once they wake up in the morning.
Although the Zoom utilises lower levels of hydrogen peroxide, it is still possible to achieve quite comparable results to in-chair whitening. The lower concentration of bleaching agents means the brightening process is more gentle and takes longer. Noticeable improvement may be seen in just a few days; however, it might take between 5 to 12 days to achieve your desired whitening results.
Does teeth whitening cause any dental problems/is it safe?
Zoom is an extremely effective formula that is safe for your smile and designed to protect your teeth, gums, soft tissues and nerve endings. This product has been designed to rebuild enamel and enhance overall tooth health and strength.
Side effects of at-home whitening are incredibly minimal to nothing, with some individuals experiencing slight sensitivity. This side effect is temporary, usually subsiding within a few hours.
It is integral to discuss any existing sensitivities you may have with a member of our dental staff before your at-home treatment. Doing so means we can ensure your whitening process is entirely painless, and you don’t experience any irritation.
How much should a teeth whitening procedure cost?
The costs of teeth whitening differ depending on the individual, the current state of the teeth and the desired results of the whitening procedure.
Upon your consultation appointment, we will be able to determine how much your smile transformation will cost.
How to know if at-home teeth whitening is for you
Teeth whitening is the perfect treatment for those who are experiencing discolouration and desire a brighter smile. Individuals can experience multiple types of stains and discolouration for a multitude of reasons. However, the most common are almost all linked to eating/drinking habits. Coffee, tea, red wine, spicy foods and cigarettes are all cited as having significant impacts on tooth colour and overall appearance. Other reasons to potentially seek teeth whitening is to appear more youthful, look healthier and to feel more confident in your smile.
At-home teeth whitening treatments are an excellent alternative for in-chair whitening for those who prefer the convenience and flexibility of whitening their teeth in the comfort of their own home. For those who experience tooth sensitivity, at-home whitening is a much more gentle means of achieving a similar shade of white. However, it is just a slower process. Also, it is worth noting that at-home, whitening is quite cost-effective for those who are wanting a more affordable alternative to in-clinic whitening procedures.
